If a person happens to consider going to an animal shelter to adopt a dog, the images that he usually have in his mind are of cute little puppies. There’s nothing wrong with that at all – except that adult dogs are also excellent options for those looking to take home a new pet.
The following are a few of the reasons that could serve as great arguments for adult dog adoption:
- What you see is what you get. This is because the adult dogs in shelters are already physically mature and their behavior and character are already pretty much established, making it easier to decide if a dog is right for you and your home.
- There is also a calmness about adult dogs that is conspicuously absent from puppies. The restlessness and boundless energy is replaced by more self assured and relaxed movement and behavior from the adult ones.
- Adult dogs also have the capacity to learn more, going against the usually held belief that it is difficult to train them. It is a testament to just how smart dogs actually are. And of course, adult dogs are already familiar with the usual settings at homes, which is always a plus.
